The Riviera Maya’s posh neighbor to the south is a small town with two marinas and lush jungle. Puerto Aventuras is the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation, yet has so much to offer including top-notch restaurants and resorts with sweeping views of the clear waters and rocky coastline. The community is home to a handful of resorts and all-inclusive hotels as well as many private vacation homes with their own 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, and impressive beachfront views.
Located along the highway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Puerto Aventuras Yachts is also a gateway to many other activities. From jungle tours and cenotes to zip-line parks and cave exploration, there is no shortage of adventure in the area.
While it is possible to get around in the town by taxi, renting a car is recommended in order to explore the region more thoroughly. The town is easily reached by bus or colectivo (small vans that offer rides a few times per day) from the airport or from Playa del Carmen and Tulum. A new grocery store (Chedraui) has recently opened at the highway junction, and is a good alternative to purchasing your supplies at the resorts.
The best place to stay in Puerto Aventuras is Villa Marinera, a gorgeous home that sits on the ocean inlet just a hop, skip and jump from the marina. The property includes a luxury yacht with a bi-lingual captain, making it easy to take a snorkel or fishing trip during your stay.
Another great option for a home base in Puerto Aventuras is the stunning Villa Bahia, which sits directly on a protected cove and offers direct access to calm sea waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The property also includes a private boat with captain, perfect for exploring the reefs, swimming with manatees, and watching the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
A catamaran cruise and snorkeling experience departs from the marina in Puerto Aventuras on a daily basis. The professional crew welcomes you aboard and provides a safety briefing before sailing to the second largest barrier reef in the world. You’ll be able to enjoy the tropical fish, colorful corals, and sea life while enjoying the open bar and delicious snacks on board.
The best time to go fishing in Puerto Aventuras is from March through September, though there is a good chance of catching Sailfish and Marlin all year round. The water is a bit cooler in November, but still swimmable, and the fishing season for Barracuda, Tuna, Shark, and Snapper is fantastic. There are several other boats that leave out of the marina on a daily basis, and you can find all-inclusive packages that include meals, drinks, and fishing trips.
