Custom non-slip socks can be made for patients with specialized needs such as diabetic foot care, venous disease or wound management. Using a specialized fabric blend, they can be designed to look beautiful and perform well too.
These special features can include reinforced toes and heels, elastic arch bands, padded foot zones and non-slip rubber grippers. They can also be printed with logos, names, images and other text. These high quality performance socks are available in a range of styles and colors for a perfect fit.
Trinity Health recently used a formulary approach to slipper sock sourcing to achieve quality improvements, SKU reductions and savings (Figure 1) in this often overlooked clinical supply category. The process was simple: document clinician and patient requirements, then find a sock supplier who could deliver these at an improved price.
Slipper socks are an important part of a person’s daily routine, and for many people they may not be worn as they should be. This can lead to poor circulation and potential falls, especially in the elderly. Slipper socks need to meet several criteria: the fit must be correct, the tread must be aligned with the sole of the foot, and the material must be comfortable.
The Wet Pendulum Test was conducted in the Physiotherapy Gait Laboratory at Princess Alexandra Hospital. The tests were conducted on a floor that was contaminated with water to simulate the effect of standing in urine, which can have a significant impact on slip resistance. A convenience sample of three different brands of non-slip sock products was tested (Figure 2). The results showed that the compression stocking and the two no-slip sock samples achieved similar slip resistance to the bare foot under this testing condition, indicating that these were not providing significant improvement in slip resistance.
In the dry test, the non-slip sock samples performed much better than the compression stocking and the bare foot, however the results under this condition were not statistically significant. This suggests that the additional grip provided by the no-slip sock was not enough to overcome the reduced contact area under this testing condition.
The Feetures no show socks are very thin, and in my opinion, rival Falke for the title of ‘thinnest no show sock’. They are also incredibly soft and comfortable to wear. They don’t slip in my shoes and pass the test with sneakers and boat shoes, but will show a bit with loafers. The best part is that Feetures offers a lifetime guarantee for their socks, and if they don’t live up to their standards, you can return them, no questions asked. They also offer a few premium upgrades including terry cushioning around the foot and compression ribbing at the arch and leg. They also have ‘L’ and ‘R’ labels for easy identification of the left and right socks. They are available in a range of colors to match your shoes. custom non-slip socks
